Fonseca is one of the greatest port houses, drawing its grapes from its three renowned quintas (vineyard estates) in the steep, terraced hills above Pinhão. They are Panascal in the Tavora Valley and Quinta do Cruzeiro and Quinta de St Antonio in the Pinhão Valley and all the grapes are field blends – the old vineyards were all planted with a mix of grapes. James Suckling, in his book titled Vintage Port, writes: “The vintage ports of Fonseca are perhaps the most consistently great of them all. Not only do they have a striking fleshiness and powerful richness when young, but they retain that youthfulness for decades.” 2016 was the first vintage to be declared since 2011. Cooler temperatures has ensured beautifully pure, delineated fruit.

"Full-bodied, tannic and powerful with fantastic grip and intensity. Grabs you. Impressive" James Suckling
