HJ Fabre Gran Reservado Malbec 2017

Mendoza

Since setting foot in the old vineyards of Argentina, Bordeaux’s Hervé Fabre has been a pioneering champion of Malbec. This is one of his finest reds, made from grapes from 80 year old vines and aged for a year in French oak. Sumptuous and ageworthy.

Hervé Fabre is a hero of both Malbec and Argentina. He left his native Bordeaux in the early 1990s in search of new and exciting wine territory in which to invest. He was heading for Chile but was side-tracked by old Malbec vineyards in Argentina and never left. Hervé now runs one of the leading estates in Mendoza, and has won a string of national and international Golds and Trophies as well as 90+ scores from critics. This sumptuous red is made from the hand-picked fruit of 80 year old vines in Mendoza, a region with “the terroir to produce not just good but truly great Malbec” (Decanter). Matured for a year in fine French oak, it’s a complex, elegant style of Malbec, that will age. For now, decant early and serve with a fine cut of beef.
