Amarone is the northern Italian classic red wine that commands lifelong allegiances and huge prices. Papaverone is made in the same painstaking way, using southern Italian grapes. The result is a wine every bit as rich, but much juicier and riper.

Amarone, the Grand Cru version of Valpolicella, is the inspiration behind the limited edition Papaverone. Maestro Scipione Giuliani has created this fine wine version of Il Papavero by meticulously selecting the highest quality Sicilian grapes and air drying them prior to crushing and fermentation. The extra concentrated juice results in a wine of deep colour and rare concentration. A fifth-generation winemaker (and quintessential Italian gent), ‘Scipi’ is the mastermind behind all the wines in our bestselling Papavero range. But this is the one that really showcases his winemaking skills better than any other: rich in texture with layer upon layer of dark cherry and spiced plum flavours. Enjoy with roast rack of lamb or a hearty casserole.
