Originally founded in 1834 by Antoine Jaboulet in the northern Rhône Valley, the Jaboulet estate is currently owned by the Frey family. Their wines regularly rival Bordeaux First Growths for their incredible array of flavours - fruity and enticing when young but acquiring complex leathery and gamey overtones with age. The 2006 la Chapelle is a great example and was the first with a new winemaking team in place. Offering that classic, smoky, meaty La Chapelle bouquet, with plenty of fruit, medium full bodied richness, impressive density and smooth tannin. It makes for an opulent glass now (with lengthy decanting), but will continue to develop for years yet. Pairs beautifully with classic meat dishes, aubergine bake or rich mushroom lasagne.
