Situated in the hills of the southern Rheinhessen, the award-winning Karl May estate is a century old. It's run today organically by brothers Peter and Fritz May. From their fine Geysersberg vineyard, this is a delicious, ripe, velvety Pinot Noir.

Germany is synonymous with fine Riesling, so it may surprise you to know this country also makes excellent reds from Pinot Noir, known here as Spätburgunder. In fact there’s something of a red wine boom underway, making Germany the third largest producer of Pinot Noir after France and the USA. This lovely example is from brothers Peter and Fritz May, seventh-generation winemakers at the Karl May estate. Both have studied oenology and travelled widely, Peter having worked at Framingham in New Zealand (famous for Pinot Noir). This wine uses grapes solely from their warm, south-facing Geysersberg vineyard. Full of ripe, red berry character with serious depth, this 2019 is delightful on its own and a dream with white meats or light game.

"Beautiful. An excellent wine. Light, with great flavours - spice and cherries, super smooth" 5-Star Online Review
