Krug was founded in 1843 by Johann Joseph Krug, a maverick who turned his back on a comfortable position in an established Champagne house to strike out on his own. Thus he founded what was to become one of Champagne’s most revered names. Winemaking at Krug is very traditional, with fermentation taking place in small oak barrels. The Grande Cuvée is “by far the most important wine of the house and the prestigious quintessence of the house style”. Based on 2014, Edition 170 comprises 45% reserve wine and 195 cuvées across 12 different vintages, the oldest being 1998. After bottling, it's kept in the Krug cellars for a further 7 years, resulting in a Champagne of extreme generosity and elegance. The perfect toast for a special celebration.
