Jeff Carrel is part of a new generation of winemakers springing up around the world that have neither vineyard nor winery. They buy small parcels of grapes from growers, rent little parts of a cellar and in Jeff’s case, make brilliant wines! La Bette is named after a type of fishing boat used on the Catalane Mediterranean coastsA blend of 40% Syrah, 40% Grenache and 20% Carignan from a selection of vineyard parcels at Château de Pena in the foothills of the Corbières mountains Jeff Carrel describes himself as ‘an eclectic winemaker’ and he certainly makes a diverse range of wines. But one thing they all have in common is that they taste delicious and regularly receive high scores from Robert Parker/ . Ripe sweet red berry fruits and blackcurrant notes on the nose are enhanced by just a touch of vanilla. The palate is rich and elegant with fresh bramble fruits and a silky smooth texture. Delicious with grilled meats.
