A modern take on a great tradition of Languedoc wines. A sort of Nouveau of the south, but with more fruit and heft. Silky smooth, it's pure Syrah from a top château in Corbières, vinified like a white and bottled very young to be gorgeously fruity.
Tasting notes
Silky with juicy freshness and herby bramble fruit
Aroma
Herbal hint with juicy, bright plum and blackberry
Allergy information
Contains sulphites
It was Tony Laithwaite's idea to rediscover an old tradition of the Languedoc - a red wine made like a white. This style was created of old to be chilled down – a cold drink for the locals in the heat of summer, served in village bars. Our buyer, Mark, talked to the great team at Château Prat de Cest in Corbières and this is the delicious result. Pure Syrah all from this premium appellation, but bottled so young it must be called Vin de France. Harvested in the cool night and the juice left on its skins for 12 hours, it's taken up lots of colour, then was fermented slowly to lend it deep ripe fruit. However, it's silky smooth with no sign of firm tannins, which makes it a joy to drink on its own, chilled even, or with meaty fish or pasta.
