Châteauneuf du Pape is the most famous red of the southern Rhône, adored for its big spice and warm, raisiny fruit. Although volumes were down, quality in 2017 was exceptional. “A very good to excellent vintage of powerful, structured red wines,” wrote Decanter. Le Prince is made at Châteauneuf’s only co-operative winery by award winning winemaker Thierry Ferlay. All the grape growers are part owners, so maximising quality is uppermost for them, which explains this wine’s impressive, medal winning success. With grapes sourced from ancient, low yielding vines across the region, you not only get lovely intensity but complexity too. Mostly Grenache, with Syrah and Mourvèdre adding black fruit and spice, this red is a tasty partner with lamb.

"Well priced Châteauneuf-du-Pape and from a very intense vintage. No rush with this one" Mark Hoddy
