James Halliday's Wine Companion proclaimed that, "Leeuwin Estate is a class act, every facet of its business working with the precision of a Swiss watch. It stands at the very forefront of estate-based, family-owned wineries." Founded by Denis and Tricia Horgan in 1972, after the famous Napa producer Robert Mondavi commended the land for wine, they were one of five founding families of Margaret River. Mondavi provided mentorship early on as they converted from cattle farming to vineyards. Their first vintage was 1979 and by the release of the 1981s, their Art Series had been recognised as 'Outstanding'. Using the finest estate grapes, all barrel fermented with part wild yeasts, this Chardonnay is pure, intense, voluptuous and ageworthy.
