Sincérité Sauvignon Blanc has long been one of my ‘must have’ whites and you’ll always find a bottle or few in my wine rack. It’s made by Domaine Joseph Mellot, one of the Loire’s oldest estates, renowned for its top-class Sancerre. Next I’ve chosen the new vintage of Les Grands Cailloux Viognier, an aromatic white from the South of France. Then Andrew McPherson’s Basilisk Chardonnay, with its apple pie and cream flavours, completes my line up of whites.
Moving on to the reds, there’s Château Maine d’Arman, a mature, right bank Bordeaux that’s drinking at perfection now. Couly Dutheil Cuvée René Couly Chinon is a superb choice for spring with its lush red fruits and delicate florality. Finally, you have Alterra Cabernet Sauvignon Special Reserve, a smooth Chilean favourite packed with blackcurrants, cherry and dark chocolate flavours.
