Conde de Cron Albariño 2018, Rias Baixas
Wonderfully aromatic with a mouth-watering freshness, there’s no doubt that Albariño is Spain’s best white.
The best come from Rías Baixas in Galicia and in particular, Salnés Valley located directly on the spectacular Atlantic coast. This is the oldest and coolest of the Rías Baixas subregions with granite soils that give the wines a distinct minerality.
It’s here that you’ll find Pazo Cilleiro, a winery owned by Javier Murúa of Bodegas Muriel in Rioja. Javier is an expert at crafting wines that reflect their origins for a lot less than you’d expect, as you’ll know if you’ve tasted our bestselling Conde de Cron Tinto and Blanco. Made entirely from hand-picked grapes grown on the classic granite soils of the region, this is smart Albariño at an appealingly modest price.
The 2018 is minerally-fresh with zesty citrus fruit alongside Albariño’s characteristic peach and apricot flavours. Fresh and elegant, it’s delicious on its own and not surprisingly given its Galician origins, it’s even better with seafood.
There’s something about Albariño with its purity and sea-breeze freshness that’s so distinctive and unique. Plus it’s perfect as we move into spring!
Il Fagiano NV Vino Rosso
Il Fagiano has been among our top-selling wines for more than a decade and the customer reviews say it all. If you’re looking for a red with an abundance of character and flavour at an affordable price, you need look no further.
Il Fagiano is made exclusively for us by Cantina Bove, a small winery in Abruzzo renowned for making “excellent wines at astonishing value for money” (Gambero Rosso). Third generation Dario Bove also makes our bestselling Averys Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, so if you’re already a fan of the Averys red, you’ll love Il Fagiano which is slightly fuller and more serious in style.
Made entirely from Montepulciano grown in the Abruzzese hills and partially aged in barrels, this opens with gorgeous aromas of black fruits of the forest and underlying creamy oak. A palate of ripe plums and crunchy black cherries is enhanced by buttery, toasty notes. Very versatile with food - try with meaty pasta dishes or Italian-style sausages.
Averys began in 1793 and over the years, the family has built its reputation as one of the UK's most pioneering wine merchants. Today, it is 5th generation Mimi Avery introducing a new generation of wine lovers to Averys. At the heart of what we do - and have done for over 220 years - is share our passion for wine. We love discovering wines with a story to tell – whether for everyday drinking or fine wines for the cellar. So, if you're looking for 'real' wines, full of character and flavour, then welcome to Averys.
