6 x Domaine de Ménard Cuvée Marine 2018 & 6 x Averys Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2016
Domaine de Ménard Cuvée Marine 2018, IGP Côtes de Gascogne
Domaine de Ménard’s Cuvée Marine needs little introduction. After all, it’s one of our top-selling whites and an all-time staff favourite. But you might have spotted the new vintage looks a bit different.
The 2018 is sporting a fresh new label and tastes more delicious than ever. There’s never been a better time to try it either as it’s just £7.99 per bottle if you take advantage of this month’s new launch deal.
Cuvée Marine is the flagship white produced at Domaine de Ménard, a family-run estate in the heart of Gascony. The secret to their success is their special terroir; rich in marine fossils, (similar to those of Chablis) it imparts a delicate minerality to the wine.
Daughter Elisabeth Prataviera takes care of the winemaking and selects the best parcels of Colombard, Gros Manseng and Sauvignon Blanc for Cuvée Marine. The grapes are picked in the cool of the night to ensure freshness and lees ageing gives a wonderful aromatic intensity. Look forward
to invigorating grapefruit and gooseberry flavours with a long, racy finish that hints at the seashell terroir.
This is sure to be another big hit for the summer months and not just because of its extraordinary value but because it delivers such mouth-watering citrussy refreshment.
Averys Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2016
Our Averys Label is a seal of quality on wines from some of the most famous wine regions in the world – Rioja, Saint-Émilion, Burgundy and Champagne to name but a few. So you may be wondering why we chose a Montepulciano d’Abruzzo which is much less well known.
The answer is that Montepulciano from Abruzzo is in our mind one of the world’s most under-rated and best value reds. We’re passionate about this humble grape which, in the right hands, delivers beautiful, ripe velvety fruits.
Step forward Dario Bove, the third generation of the Bove family to head up the Cantina Bove winery located between the Apennine Mountains and the Adriatic Sea. By focusing on the best sites and low yields, Dario has proved that Montepulciano can compete with the best of Italy’s red grapes.
For this Averys exclusive, he uses 100% Montepulciano and ages just a small amount – around 20% – in barrel to give a soft, mouthfilling texture to the dark, inky fruit. With spicy black cherries and blackberry flavours, it’s a great choice for barbecues.
This is the sixth vintage of Averys Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and it continues to delight its many followers and attract new fans each year.
Averys began in 1793 and over the years, the family has built its reputation as one of the UK's most pioneering wine merchants. Today, it is 5th generation Mimi Avery introducing a new generation of wine lovers to Averys. At the heart of what we do - and have done for over 225 years - is share our passion for wine. We love discovering wines with a story to tell – whether for everyday drinking or fine wines for the cellar. So, if you're looking for 'real' wines, full of character and flavour, then welcome to Averys.
