Pontificis is made from the classic Rhône trio of grapes – Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre – or GSM as it’s often known. We asked winemaker Laurent Delaunay to make it exclusively for Averys in the style of a mini Châteauneuf-du-Pape – rich, spicy and packed full of fruit but in an easy-drinking, approachable style and at a far more affordable price. The 2020 release of Villa Blanche Chardonnay has arrived and will no doubt be snapped up by its many loyal fans. What makes it so appealing (other than the price!) is that it’s beautifully rich and rounded with a creaminess of texture but only spends three months in barrel so still maintains its freshness of fruit.
