Madame Veuve Point Coteaux Bourguignons 2019

Côteaux Bourguignons AOC

Coteaux Bourguignons is an exciting new appellation in the very south of Burgundy; prized Chardonnay from Beaujolais in fact. Named after a plucky, 19th-century lady winegrower, this is an opulent, creamy, ripe peach white with mineral freshness.

This delicious white Burgundy honours the pluck and courage of Jeanne Marie Veuve, pictured on the label. Born in Mâconnais, she learnt all about tending the vines from her parents. She married at 18 and helped her husband in the vineyard too. At 26 she became a widow and, despite local opposition, proved herself a skilled grower. In 1904 she even took a trip to America to show her wines and gained a prize for excellence. The estate has been passed down the generations and her great great granddaughter, Géraldine, continues the legacy. The family remain in Mâconnais, but for this wine took Chardonnay from the new Coteaux Bourguignons. Zingy-fresh with creamy weight from lees ageing, this is a perfect white for creamy sauced chicken or fish.

"Lovely freshness to match the ripe, white peach fruit, with bright mineral zing. A great new find" Mark Hoddy
