Maison Roche de Bellene Chassagne-Montrachet 2019

Chassagne-Montrachet AOC

From a vintage that really "hits the bullseye" (J Suckling), this is a glorious, nuanced Chassagne. It's made by the formidable winemaker-négociant Nicolas Potel. A beautifully poised and intense white Burgundy, already creamy, ripe and fresh.

Roche de Bellene is the craftsmanship of Nicolas Potel. He learned from his father Gérard, renowned for putting Burgundy's Domaine Pousse d'Or at the same level as the hugely revered Romanée Conti. Despite this high bar, Nicolas Potel has shown equal, if not greater, talent. He studied in Beaune, then gained experience in Australia and California. His father's early death meant the family estate had to be sold and Nicolas had to build up from nothing. He makes organic, old-vine wines from his domaine, as well as sourcing top-quality parcels of wine, blending and finishing them. Neal Martin says of them, "both domaine and négociant wines can be absolutely delicious." From a 5-Star vintage, this fine white is irresistible now or will cellar.

"Nicolas Potel’s wines have a strong following and for good reason. Onwards and upwards for Potel" Neal Martin
