Manzanos Gran Reserva 2001

Rioja DOCa

Finca Manzanos is the flagship winery of two brothers, David and Victor Manzanos. They’ve 127 years of heritage behind them but prefer to blend tradition with modernity. It seems like a perfect marriage, judging by this sumptuously aged Gran Reserva.

The Manzanos family have been growing grapes for the last 200 years and making wine since the completion of a cellar in 1890. The latest generation, David and Victor, took over the estate from their father after his sudden death ten years ago and have been making great strides ever since. Right from the start they employed the talented Borja Ripa as winemaker for their flavour filled Riojas, like this classic Gran Reserva. From the standout 2001 vintage, it combines old vine Tempranillo, with gorgeous Garnacha and local grape Mazuelo. In the glass that adds up to gloriously rich flavour from well ripened fruit with toasty complexity from up to six years in French and American oak. Silky, elegant, with luscious spice, it's a fine lamb red

"Top example of the quality in the Manzanos' reds. A classic, with incredible longevity and freshness" Jean-Marc Sauboua
