Hunter Valley Semillon is the iconic white of Australia and this is one of the finest of them all. It’s from Andrew Margan, who managed the Hunter’s oldest estate, Tyrrell’s, for 25 years. Since 1997 Andrew and his wife Lisa have run their own cellar, building up 100 hectares of vineyards in Broke Fordwich. In that short time they have built up an immense reputation – “outstanding winery” wrote critic James Halliday, giving his highest 5 red star rating – “the giant killer of the Sydney Show” concluded the Sydney Herald – and their wines regularly receive 95+ points. Grapes for this white are from 40 year old vines, vinified without oak. Enjoy now or cellar for a few years – this iconic white is spot on with richer chicken or fish dishes.
