Marqués de Butrago Gran Reserva is from a family winery steeped in tradition and a wine that every Rioja fan needs to try. The Manzanos family started making Rioja in the 1800s and Marqués de Butrago takes its name from their flagship vineyards. Today, brothers Victor and David Manzanos are the fifth generation to run the estate and together with winemaker Borja Ripa, make fresh, smooth Riojas from these ancient vines – some up to 60 years old.
Gran Reserva Riojas are the pinnacle of winemaking in the region, with the wines only made in the best years and from the finest quality grapes
An elegant blend that combines the soft texture of Tempranillo (85%) with the black fruit and structure of Mazuelo (15%)
Decant in advance to allow the many layers to unfurl and enjoy with a selection of cheeses or classic roast dinner
Tasting note: With three years in barrel and seven years maturing in bottle, this is complex and savoury with hints of woodland, vanilla and wild herbs alongside lush plum and dried cherry notes.
