Portil de Lobos is crafted from a blend of classic Bordeaux varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot alongside Tempranillo and aged in 50% French and 50% American oak barrels.
Portil de Lobos is made by brothers Victor and David Manzanos, whose family have been making Rioja since the 1800s (and have recently expanded into Navarra), so you know you’re in safe hands
It may say ‘Crianza’ on the label, but it spent 18 months in barrel before maturing in bottle in the cellars of the estate for the last three years – that’s longer than many much more expensive Reservas
Navarra is situated next door to Rioja but also close to the border with France, so you’ll often find the wines have a strong French influence
Tasting note: A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Tempranillo, it’s aged beautifully with spicy black fruits enhanced by hints of chocolate, leather and creamy vanilla.
