A Gold medal for this crisp, elegant white blending, unusually for the Languedoc, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio. It's from the vineyards of Spanish-born Jesús Aledo, now right at home in southern France. Delicate herbal, ripe stone fruit, citrusy.

Talented Spanish grape grower, now winemaker, Jesús Aledo, was drawn to the rugged sprawl of the Languedoc and moved there 10 years ago to be head viticulturalist at a large estate. As soon as he could afford, he bought some vineyards of his own, and this delightful, crisp white is the happy outcome. He is meticulous in his approach, up in the vines early every morning (matutina in Spanish), especially when it came to picking the Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio for this fresh white. Close to the sea, the days of endless sunshine are tempered by cooling sea breezes, so the grapes ripen slowly to crisp, aromatic perfection. A pleasing easy-going white that is tasty on its own or with grilled fish, fresh herb risotto or tabbouleh salad.
