Decanter was impressed by the 2016 vintage of Vincent Boyer's rich Rhône red, calling it "dynamic" with "bags of energy". Just wait till they try his 2019. From his Visan domaine, this is a classic blend with ripe bramble fruit, pepper and spice.

Domaine de la Bastide is an ancient southern Rhône property formerly run by Benedictine monks and before that as a farm by Knights Templar. Second generation Vincent Boyer has plenty of artefacts to prove that, including ancient coins and a centuries old wine vat. The Boyer family bought it in 1989 and today second generation Vincent and Stephanie run the estate. It lies in the cru of Visan and some of his grapes go into this wine, others into his luscious Côtes du Rhône. It's a rich, supple blend of that top trio Grenache, Syrah with a little Carignan and judging from comments by Decanter magazine has that magical balance of bright, ripe fruit, freshness and silky tannins. Lovely now with grilled meats, a herby vegetable bake or at a bbq.
