James Suckling wrote, "Montepeloso is one of the emerging superstars on the Tuscan Coast". Since 1999 Fabio Chiarelotto has been at the helm. An ardent perfectionist in both the vineyard and the cellar, he has worked to replant the vineyards with the finest clones, reduce yields and introduce finest winemaking practices, all in the name of expressing the true potential of the estate's terroir. In 2007 Silvio Denz, owner of a handful of top Bordeaux estates (Péby Faugères and Faugères in Saint Emilion, plus another top cru in Sauternes), invested in the estate and further boosted quality. Their winemaker is Fabrio Moltard, who has worked with the renowned Angelo Gaja. Using native grapes and aged a year in barrel, this is a momentous red.
