Only a few talented folk will ever be named ‘Winemaker of the Year’ at the prestigious International Wine & Spirit Competition. Surely the pinnacle of a winemaker’s career? More of a plateau for Chianti star John Matta – he’s won it no fewer than four times! And once you’ve tasted this special project wine, you’ll understand why. It’s his homage to the rule breaking Super Tuscans that shot to fame in the 1970s when Chianti producers began adding illegal ‘international’ varieties like Cabernet to their Sangiovese. Pricier examples include Antinori’s Tignanello and go for three-figure sums. We were thrilled to secure John’s fabulous, well priced Montevasco. You’ll find it delicious solo or with veal cutlets or mushroom risotto.
