Morfeo is a terrific, weighty, spiced red from vineyards in Castilla y León. Most of them lie, in fact, in Toro, the reds of which Wine Enthusiast describes as "dense, potent and hedonistic". It's from sixth generation Richard Sanz, whose family wine history dates back to 1820. In 2005, he and his siblings, Marco and Alejandra, set up on their own in Castilla y León, to make a modern style of ultra crisp white and powerful, fruit filled reds, like this. They firmly believe in working with nature, with a gentle hand in the vineyard and the cellar. This intense red uses grapes from three estate vineyards, gently fermented, then aged in cask and bottle. It's a mellow, complex wine to savour with rich red meat dishes or vegetarian Irish stew.
