Jeff Carrel describes himself as an eclectic winemaker. He’s part of a new generation of winemakers that has neither vineyard nor winery. Instead, they buy small parcels of grapes from growers, rent a corner of a cellar and focus on making brilliant wines. Jeff currently makes around 40 wines this way, including this Morillon (the Southern French term for Chardonnay). For this 2021 vintage Jeff has once again produced a rich white in a delicious Burgundy style. Thanks to malolactic fermentation in barrel and the addition of some grapes with a touch of botrytis (noble rot), it delivers a creamy intensity, lovely, peachy fruit and impressive complexity. Lovely served solo or with cured ham, guinea fowl with mushrooms and creamy fish pie.
