The original sugar plantation and distillery were acquired by William Sandiford in the early 18th century. In 1747 the property passed into the hands of John Sober, who appointed Sir John Gay Alleyne as manager. So successful was Sir John that the estate was renamed Mount Gay. Now it is owned by Rémy Cointreau and, benefiting greatly from this company’s worldwide network, Mount Gay Rum has become very popular all around the globe. Their Eclipse rum in particular is the embodiment of the Mount Gay style, with luscious flavours and aroma. Notes of vanilla and banana with underlying caramel and summer fruits are overlaid by a toasty spice from two years' ageing in American whiskey casks. A fine rum to sip or get creative with your cocktails.
