In 1930, aged just 20, Gaston Hochar founded the great Chateau Musar in Lebanon's high Bekaa Valley. The property has remained a legend in the world of wine ever since. Gaston was inspired by his country's 6,000 year history of winemaking and also his travels to Bordeaux. A friendship with Langoa Barton's owners has continued that Bordeaux connection, as has his son's, Serge's, studies in oenology under the great Prof Emile Peynaud. Serge took over winemaking in 1959 and in 1984 was made Decanter's first ever 'Winemaker of the Year'. This was in recognition of his dedication to making great wine through Lebanon's 15 year civil war. That stellar reputation continues with the next generation. Enjoy this silky, fruit and spice-filled red.
