A favourite of many, though only a tiny fraction of Dailuaine is bottled as a Single Malt. This rich, intense, 16 year old Speyside is generous in its smoky spice, rich fruit and vanilla shortbread notes. A really smooth, complex malt that lingers.
Tasting notes
Spiced clove, bright apple, creamy biscuit, long, intense
Aroma
Smoky spice, vanilla shortbread, fudge and rhubarb hints
Dailuaine is a tucked away Speyside distillery with a long history. William MacKenzie was the founder in 1852, and, inspired by the undulating green hills that surround the distillery in the Spey valley, he named it dail uaine, ‘green valley’ in Scottish Gaelic. In 1865 William’s son joined forces with banker James Fleming and expanded the distillery considerably. Then Dailuaine merged with Skye’s Talisker in 1898, and later with other larger whisky players. The vast majority of Dailuaine’s output goes into the well-known Johnnie Walker blend, so it’s rare to find it as a Single Malt, let alone one with 16 years’ maturity. With such buttery, vanilla shortbread, smoky spice and bright apple richness, this is the ideal after dinner malt.
