Bodegas Castaño has been a leading winery in the Yecla region for generations. Combining tradition with a pioneering spirit, they make some really exciting wines. These are mostly using Monastrell, taken from their 410 hectares of high altitude vineyard. You can taste that height in the freshness of their wines. This dark, spiced red uses pure Monastrell from their prized 50+ year old bush vines – in the dry, arid soils of the region, only bush vines will survive. They also promote superb flavour intensity. This is a weighty red, with added complexity from six months in barrel. Wild blackberry, plum, clove and cinnamon, the wine is supremely smooth and lengthy. Supple enough to enjoy solo; supreme with slow cooked lamb shanks or moussaka.
