Othello 2013

Napa Valley

Here’s a wine you rarely see on this side of the Atlantic. Originally produced for the Japanese market, Othello hails from the Napa Valley vineyards of legendary Bordeaux winemaker Christian Moueix, whose top wine, Pétrus, fetches over £2,000 a pop.

Rich vibrant Napa Valley Cabernet meets impeccable Bordelais winemaking in this exceptional offering from Christian Moueix. Back in the late 1960s, California made a big impression on a great many people, including young Christian, who was studying at UC Davis at the time. He fell in love with the Napa Valley and its wines, and made frequent return visits after graduating. In 1981 Christian discovered the Napanook Ranch and was blown away by the quality of their Cabernet. He soon became a partner in the property, finally buying outright in 1995. The estate’s top wine retails at over £200, making Othello remarkable value for money. Crafted from the fruit of younger vines, it’s approachable in its youth – enjoy with rare steak or lamb shanks.
