This is a very sleek and suave Châteauneuf du Pape from Famille Brunier, renowned of course for Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe. Along with Chapoutier, they are the most famous name of the southern Rhône. The second estate has elevated vineyards, which produces a superb, pure, ageworthy red. The grapes for this glorious 2014 come almost exclusively from their Piedlong vineyard, with a little from the Crau plot at La Roquète. Nearly all Grenache (70 year old vines) with a touch of dark, brooding Mourvèdre, it is a beautifully balanced, pure and polished red. Savour with your slow cooked lamb shanks or garlicy roasted vegetables. No rush with this wine, it'll age a few years more.
