Bodegas Pirineos was founded as a co-operative in 1964, privatised in 1993 and bought by the renowned Barbadillo family in 2007. They were a driving force in getting the tiny region of Somontano recognised as a proper DO in 1984 and remain today one of the leading wineries. Jesús Astrain has been a winemaker there since 1993 and is also regarded as leading in the region. He is hugely respected throughout Spain. He has worked with the region's small growers to source high altitude, old vine Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer and Macabeo grapes, cool fermented them and lees aged the wine. The result is an impressive, crisp white with lovely fruit character, a hint of spice and excellent freshness. An ideal choice with seafood and lighter dishes.

"An exciting new white that helps to save the tiny, remote vineyards of Somontano. Very fresh" Beth Willard
