Valpolicella is one of Italy’s best known reds, loved for its vibrant red fruit. Here it’s combined with the Ripasso method, so has more intense, chocolatey cherry fruit. A star wine crafted by Daniele Accordini at ‘Venetian Winery of the Year 2010’.

Halfway between the powerful Amarone style and classic Valpolicella, this dark, cherryish red is from Cantina Negrar, an award winning cellar, not far from Verona. Talented oenologist Daniele Accordini works closely with small local growers, encouraging the highest standards in the vineyard as well as respect for the natural environment and biodiversity. For this red he has ensured plenty of richness, weight and complexity by fermenting the wine with a portion of partially dried grapes – the famous ‘Ripasso’ technique of Amarone. From a top vintage, the wine has rich cherry flavour, chocolatey notes and Valpolicella's attractive zip of freshness. Poggio al Lago pairs beautifully with pasta with a rich tomato sauce or a spicy pork casserole.
