We challenged our good friend Laurent Delaunay to find all the essential ingredients of fine Châteauneuf-du-Pape – Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Then to make us a wine that would thoroughly outclass its inspiration pound for pound. He delivered!

Laurent Delaunay began his career in Burgundy, but these days he makes wine in France's Languedoc, sourcing parcels of top-quality grapes from old, low-yielding, out-of-the-way vineyards. With Grenache from Minervois, Syrah from Beziers, and Mourvèdre from La Clape and Corbières, Pontificis combines the best of the Languedoc with a classic Rhône blend. It offers the perfect balance of richness and complexity (at a great price), so it’s easy to see why it’s become a customer favourite and one of the top wines in our range. Full of rich, warming aromas of spices and kirsch, this is smooth and mouthfilling. It needs no special occasion to pop the cork, so enjoy it with simple sausage and mash or fancier dining of lamb shanks, or rich lasagne.
