Château Muret, located just north of Saint- Estèphe, was listed in the 1850 edition of Cocks & Feret, Bordeaux’s ‘bible’. Yet despite its long history and fine reputation, it was in a sorry state when the Boufflerd family acquired it in 1985. They’ve nursed it back to its former glory, replanting vines and building a new winery and the 2012 is testament to their hard work. “So Médoc with that lovely dry texture and subtle and almost savoury dark fruit. Benchmark and well priced.” 16/20, jancisrobinson.com. This Haut-Médoc is made in a modern, rounded style with polished fruit and a hint of oak thanks to the 30% of new oak barrels used in the wine’s ageing.
