Robert Parker calls Lafite “Bordeaux’s most famous property” and their £450 bottles represent the pinnacle of fine wine. Few, however, know of their sister estate in Chile’s Colchagua Valley, where the same producer creates remarkable wines for a fraction of the price. The fruit for this fine red was selected from 30 to 60 year old vines with exceptionally concentrated grapes resulting in fabulously intense wines. Throw in the exacting standards for which Lafite is renowned and little wonder this tastes so elegant. It delivers Chilean Cabernet’s famous purity and concentration (“the most exciting red for the money in the world” declared The Guardian) plus finesse and structure. A superb Cabernet – decant before serving with roast red meats.
