Aglianico del Vulture is considered one of the best red wines in Italy – the Barolo of the south. That's because of its elegant, many layers of flavour and ageing ability. Enjoy that here in this great red crafted by a top winemaker.
"One of Italy's top red grapes, Aglianico has lovely class and complexity and ages brilliantly"
Leonardo Bassano Buyer for Italy
Aglianico is one of Italy’s most noble red grapes with a class and complexity that puts it alongside Nebbiolo. Those from Vulture are known as ‘the Barolo of the South’ but thankfully come at a sensible price. The region lies on the slopes of the extinct volcano, Monte Vulture. Its mineral-rich soils add complexity, while high altitude (800m) means it has one of the longest growing seasons in Italy. Tre Stelle is made by a small co-operative where winemaking is overseen by Alberto Antonini – formerly in charge at the renowned Antinori. Alberto works here with talented Dennis Verdicchia, and together they make quality wines that capture the character of this unique region. Rich and spicy, it's great with slow-cooked lamb or hearty pasta.
