Respected wine tome Decanter has named Sebastián Zuccardi South America’s No.1 Winemaker, and Concreto is one of Argentina’s finest wines. 95 points from both Suckling and Wine Advocate for this complex yet elegant, subtle masterclass in Malbec.
The Zuccardi family’s estate was founded in 1963 by Alberto, the grandfather of today’s superstar winemaker Sebastián. The winery is an angular, almost brutalist structure, designed as a tribute to the austerity of the landscape it complements. Constructed with utmost respect to the grape, the cellar is fully gravity fed. You won’t find any stainless steel here – all the tanks are concrete – hence this wine’s unusual name. It’s even aged in concrete vats to preserve the fruit purity and structure of the Malbec. “This is a unique wine for Mendoza with a cool-fruit and serious slate character," said James Suckling, while Wine Advocate called it "an incredible value" . Will age superbly. Delicious with a tender steak or vegetarian enchiladas.
"Very linear and tight with so much blue fruit and violets. Raspberries, too. Electric at the end"
James Suckling, critic 95 Points
