Situated in the beautiful sweeping landscape of the northern Rhône and its steep granite hillsides lies Cave de Saint Desirat. The cellar was founded in 1960 and today works with 350 growers to produce a delectable range of Saint Josephs, as well vins de pays from just beyond the appellation boundary. From a vintage described by Decanter, and many others besides, as "excellent", this is a very elegant red, with silken red fruits, herb and liquorice complexity. It's well structured too, so there's no hurry to drink it. Very much Saint Joseph style at a very modest price. A delicious wine to treat guests too at a barbecue or to serve with slow braised lamb shanks or a rich casserole. For now, best to open an hour beforehand and decant.

"If you love the Syrah reds of the northern Rhône, then this is a serious bargain. Delicious too" Jehan Sacaze
