S’tard by Soutard 2016

Saint-Emilion AOC

From an historic, 18th-century estate, not far from the centre of this beautiful, medieval town, S'tard is a superb second wine. Now with six years' age, it's drinking well, although there's still no rush. Full-bodied, ripe and long, with maturity.

Approached down a long avenue of majestic linden trees, Château Soutard is a beautiful 18th-century estate, the origins of which date back to 1513. It lies on the prized clay and limestone plateau of Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, close to the church at the heart of the cobbled medieval town. It was purchased in 2006 by La Mondiale and, with this backing, its buildings, cellar and 30 hectares of vineyard have been fully renovated. S'tard is the estate's second wine, made from the grapes that don't quite reach the standard of the Grand Vin. Nearly two thirds Merlot, with a large portion of Cabernet Franc, plus Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, the wine is part aged in barrel. A claret that's delightful for earlier enjoyment, drinking well now.

"Enjoy here the glorious mellow richness of the Soutard estate in their fine second wine" Jennie Perry
