Bordeaux’s white wines have long lived in the shadow of the region’s world famous reds and remain vastly undervalued. Yet their popularity is beginning to rise with growing speed. Château Vircoulon has been owned and run by Patrick Hospital since 1983. Its south and south-westerly facing slopes catch plenty of afternoon sun, ripening berries perfectly. The wine has a fine pedigree, with previous vintages winning awards galore (including Gold medals and a 90-point Decanter recommendation). Made from the fruit of vines over 20 years old, this is a crisp, fruit-led, unoaked white, with grapefruit freshness and floral elegance and a long, crisp finish. Chilled, this is an ideal choice to sip on a sunny summer’s afternoon. Great too with fish.
