Nelson lies on the very northern tip of the South Island, just around the coast from the more famous Marlborough region. Sauvignon Blanc from this sunny region is renowned for its appealing ripe peach fruit, while cooling sea breezes ensure there’s plenty of freshness too. Think fruity more than grassy. 2.4K is from Waimea Estates, founded in 1993 by two generations of the Bolitho family. They planted extensive vineyards and worked hard to produce wines – Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris – that have, over the last 25 years, charmed the world. And impressed at competition too, judging by the winery’s track record for top awards. Chill down a bottle – it’s a cracker with spicy seafood stir-fry or chicken and mango salad.
