Fresh raspberry fruit with savoury hints
Rioja watch out! La Mancha is showing that its grapes, in the right hands, can achieve sumptuous levels of quality. Carlos Martínez Bujanda’s great grandfather established his first cellar in Rioja in 1884. Today, the Bujanda name remains a byword for quality in this most prestigious of regions. Now Carlos has turned his attention to La Mancha, where his Sierra Almirón winery produces gorgeously concentrated reds. Land in La Mancha is much cheaper, despite many seriously old vines, hence this wine’s great price. Add benchmark Bujanda attention to detail – from labour intensive hand picked grapes to prolonged fermentation – and you get magnificent results. A classic, raspberry scented Tempranillo Garnacha to serve with tapas or lamb cutlets.
