Gaujac is a small village in the southern Rhône, next to a Roman spa dating back to the 5th century BC. In 1928, Les Vignerons de Gaujac was founded, dedicated to the wines of the locality. Today, it's headed up by the founder's grandson, Jean Paul Coste, leading a team of just seven growers - our 'Saviours' of this wine. J-P and his fellow growers are determined to keep the winery independent – for the sake of J-P's grandfather and for the growers that loyally supply the grapes. And rightly so, judging by the many Golds for its wines. Unusually high in Syrah, this is a silky red with dark plum and prune hints, with hints of wild herbs and liquorice spice. Supple enough to enjoy on its own, great at barbecue or with herby moussaka.
