Selección Especial Numerada 58 Reserva 2012

La Mancha DO

It's rare to find a 2012 Reserva, certainly at this price. And even rarer, one from central Spain. It's a fabulously mellow, spicy oak-matured Merlot Cabernet from a superb family winery we first met in Rioja. They now blaze a trial in La Mancha too.

We first introduced customers to the fabulous Riojas of the Martínez Bujanda family in 1984. They'd just completed a state-of-the-art winery which still leads the field today. We loved their wines and judges did too - over the years, they've won scores of awards and were numbered among the Top 50 Wineries of the World nine years in succession. They still make great wine in Rioja, but impressed by the ancient bush vines of La Mancha, built a second ultra-modern bodega there. It's called Finca Antigua and this is a special parcel of mellow Merlot Cabernet. Quality was so good, they aged the wine in barrel for a full 15 months, then in bottle in the cellar for 7 years before release. Silky, mellow, complex - savour with tapas or grilled meats.

"From our friends in Spain, very special and rare, 9-year-old Reserva - mellow and complex" Jean-Marc Sauboua
