Marqués de Butrago Gran Reserva is from a family winery steeped in tradition and a wine that every Rioja fan needs to try. The Manzanos family started making Rioja in the 1800s and Marqués de Butrago takes its name from their flagship vineyards. Today, brothers Victor and David Manzanos are the fifth generation to run the estate and together with winemaker Borja Ripa, make fresh, smooth Riojas from these ancient vines – some up to 60 years old.
We’ve been singing the praises of Navarran wines for years and they’re deservedly popular with Averys customers. But they still remain unknown to many wine lovers which is why they offer such superb value for money
Aged in oak just like the Bodegas flagship Riojas but is made from a richer blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha and Tempranillo
With soft velvety tannins and a long finish, it’s both food friendly and easy drinking
Tasting note: “Geographically, Navarra lies between Rioja and southwest France and style wise the red wines reflect this. ‘Claret meets Rioja’ in this delicious, perfectly mature little gem from the brothers Manzanos. Ripe blackcurrant fruit with mellow, integrated notes of vanilla oak. Fabulous value too.” Mimi Avery
