Muscadet is one of the super classics of France, much forgotten and consequently great value. From Jérémie Huchet and family, this 2019 has brilliant intensity from old vine fruit in the superior Sèvre et Maine area. Citrusy with seabreeze freshness.

We’ve worked with Jérémie Huchet and his father, Yves, at Domaine de la Chauvinière for many years. Each year, we taste Muscadets from many other producers, but they never quite measure up to those from this domaine. His Le Grand Fief Muscadet comes from 45 year old vines located on granite soils in the top area, Sèvre et Maine. These factors add up to a brisk minerality with crisp lemon, apple and pear freshness. After fermentation, the wine is aged ‘sur lie’, on its lees, which adds a little creamy weight and texture. This incisive, lemony style makes an excellent food match all year round. We love it well chilled as an apéritif, or served with all sort of fresh seafood – moules marinières with frites (of course!) to panfried lemon sole.
