French-born Frédéric Thibaut researched for years before he decided on a plot for his prized Peruvian vineyards. He selected the coastal-cooled Ica Valley and this exceptional quality red illustrates it was a great choice. Native to SW France, Tannat is known for the tannins it was named after! But first Uruguay and now Peru have shown those can be tamed to make a rich and deeply velvety, claret-style red. Peru is best known for making pisco and only in the last decade or so have winemakers realised that, by planting high, you could grow grapes that make great wine. Don Manuel grapes are sourced from an old, ungrafted, 35-year-old vineyard. Aged over a year in part new oak, this is a serious red. Open early and serve with roast red meats.

"Gorgeous ripeness in this bold black red from Peru, with great structure too. Best with food" Nick Taylor
