Established in 1998, Montecucco DOC is a relatively new wine region that borders Brunello di Montalcino to the east and Morellino di Scansano to the south. Most Italian wine fans don’t know about Montecucco yet but with wines like this, we predict it won’t stay that way for long.
Off the beaten path in Tuscany, Montecucco is an unspoilt landscape of woods, olive groves, pastures and vineyards. Its red wines must consist of a minimum of 60% Sangiovese
Tenuta di Montecucco dates back to the 11th century and is the oldest estate in the region and put the region on the map
The wine is hand-crafted from organic Sangiovese (70%), Ciliegiolo (15%) and Montepulciano (15%) matured in French oak barrels
Tasting note: An enticing nose of small ripe berries gives way to vibrant morello cherry and cocoa flavours. With concentrated ripe fruit, lightly toasted nuances and silky smooth tannins, this is delicious with Fiorentina steak and char-grilled vegetables.
